Summer has given just what I needed this year. A slower pace, time to re-charge, and a much needed re-set. My strength is returning, and I can finally say that I'm beginning to feel much more like myself once again.
I've been surprised at how much I've enjoyed the quiet. Time to step away, time to just 'be', time to enjoy the small moments.
Kayaking on the lake has been such a lot of fun. We like to go close towards the reeds and watch the dragonflies and damselflies, before paddling back to the shore, where a flask of hot tea awaits.
Blackberries have been gathered. They've ripened much earlier this year. Some have already been used to make Blackberry Vodka. The remainder are in the freezer for when I'm ready to make compote.
The solar eclipse was a highlight for me. We joined in with an organised event, and there was such a wonderful atmosphere. We watched as the light dimmed, and got to see some amazing images through special cameras. We were so fortunate to get a clear view, here. The second image was taken a little later, as we were returning home. A memorable evening.
Over the summer, Lily has been kept busy, taking part in some climbing and archery sessions, and it's been so lovely to see her growing in confidence. We've also been back up on the fells and managed to tick off another Wainwright, and the last of the Northern Fells. Stopping in at Lingy Hut Bothy to eat our lunch, while enjoying the beautiful view right down the valley.
As we move into late summer, I am looking forward to getting back into a routine. I'm counting my blessings, and hoping for some positive news very soon.
Back soon.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Jo. I have several appointments to attend over the next few days, then all being well, it will be work as usual next week. Xx
DeleteYour first paragraph was so lovely to read. I know that life has been incredibly tough for you and I'm glad that your strength is returning, so that you feel more 'you'.
ReplyDeleteYour eclipse photos are wonderful such a special event to be part of.
Feeling my strength returning has been the greatest gift. X
DeleteOh my dear Jules - I am so very happy to hear you're feeling more like yourself. That is wonderful!! You and Lily look like you got up to the most lovely adventures. The fells are absolutely stunning!! And how cool you were able to catch the eclipse so well. Blessings on the rest of your summer and continued strength and peace. 💗
ReplyDeleteI should point out that the first eclipse image was taken using a special camera with a filter, and definitely not belonging to me :) However, it was amazing to see.
DeleteWe've enjoyed a relaxed pace this summer, although it has gone by rather too quickly. X
A lovely post ...
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing all of your photographs, especially the ones of the eclipse.
That was such a special event wasn't it.
The kayaking looks and sounds fun.
I do hope positive news comes soon for you.

All the best Jan

ReplyDeleteThank you, Bless. The weather is still very warm here. X
DeleteDespite living near a lot of water and being a confident swimmer, I never really get on the water. Kayaking or paddle boarding really appeal to me, it looks so restful. I’m glad you’re making the most of summer as much as you can and enjoying simple joys. Xxx
ReplyDeleteThe kayak was Lily's birthday present a few years back. It's been so great, and she's had so much use out of it. X
DeleteStunning photos, nothing beats a peaceful life.
ReplyDeletePeaceful, and without drama. X
DeleteYour eye for photography...well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteIt's good to hear that you are enjoying life. The eclipse was beautiful wasn't it. Perhaps a turning point for many of us.

DeleteSo pleased you have had a good summer Jules and life is easing. I too have been suffering from fatigue, blood transfusions etc and find it challenging. Like you I
ReplyDeleteI have had to listen to my body. Can I ask you Jules there is a photo on your last post of a bench overlooking a lake… Is it Lake Coniston? The photo brings me joy and peace, I so love it. Thank you for gifting us such joyous photos. Keep well. Love June.
The bench overlooks Derwentwater, from Friars Crag. It's a short, flat walk, direct from Keswick town centre. I would be happy to send you a copy directly, if you would like.
DeleteWe have to listen to what our bodies are telling us.
Sending lots of love and strength to you, June. X
Jules that would be wonderful, thank you.🙏 June

ReplyDeleteThank you, Barbara. X
DeleteThere is something quite cathartic about being out on the hills or on the water - it seems to soothe something that modernity can not. Keep being gently revived and healing xx
ReplyDeleteIt isn't until I get back on the fells again, that I realise just how much I've missed it. One of the greatest things about summer, is the amount of time I get to spend outdoors. X
DeleteI’m so glad summer has given you the time that you needed … wonderful news and absolutely wonderful photos as well. I always appreciate you sharing them because they bring peace to my heart just looking at them. Take care of yourself and give yourself grace. It’s much deserved.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary. I've been refilling my cup at every opportunity. Sending love. Xx
