The post title was unashamedly stolen from some graffiti I saw at Birling Gap, which made me smile.
It's been another few weeks of ups and downs, but I'm focusing on the positives, still standing, and ploughing through. At times I've had enough energy to go for a short run. But there have also been difficult, stark reality moments, including a need to be physically helped into bed.
Brighton was fantastic! Although it was only a short stay, it really felt like we were on a proper holiday, and it gave me a much needed lift. We spent time exploring, seeing the sights, and relaxing on the beach. Even my bikini got an outing! The Brightoni360 gave us an incredible view of the city. And, of course, we treated ourselves to a walk along the pier, followed by a fish and chip supper, down by the shore.
Back at home, I've been relaxing and spent a lot of last weekend sitting in the hammock swing seat, reading my book. I've also been keeping watch over the little pond. It's amazing what I've noticed when sitting for a while without any distractions. A few visiting Dragonflies; so many butterflies; and the bumble bees that are happily nesting in the old tree stump beside the dry stone wall. The nasturtiums are beginning to flower now, and the not-so-little lemon trees are sprouting new growth. The cats have been seeking out shaded areas of the garden, or disappearing through the long grass into the field. They appear to be quite happy in spite of the heat.
This week, I've made some more progress on my crocheted squares. I would be thrilled if I could manage to finish the blanket in time for the colder weather, but I'm not going to put any pressure on myself. I just want to enjoy the process, rather than hurry it.
It's hard to even think about winter, seeing as today is the hottest day of the year, so far. As usual, I was up early, so I opened all the windows wide enough to allow the fresher morning air to drift through the whole house, before closing them again to make sure the heat stays outside. I keep it nice and cool by ensuring all the curtains and blinds stay shut throughout the day. I'll water the garden much later, when the sun begins to set behind the trees.
I've yet to rediscover my rhythm of posting here again, but I'm hoping this will come in time, once I begin to feel better. Until then, I really hope life is treating you well. And that you are also enjoying some beautiful summer sunshine.
Back soon.
J. X

It sounds like your little break away was exactly what you needed. I think the sea air and a change of scenery can do us the world of good. It sounds like you're coping well in the heat we're experiencing, it's been nice to have some good weather at last.
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying this summer weather, Jo. I hope you have a fantastic trip. Xx
DeleteHello dear Friend!
ReplyDeleteWhat a breathtaking place. 😍 It sounds like it was the holiday you needed. I know you are a private person but please know I'm here if you want to email and share anytime. I continue to pray for your struggles and that you will feel better soon. Reading outside is one of my favorites in the summer. The garden pond looks like a perfect place to do just that! Blessings to you always Jules. 💗
You are so thoughtful and kind, Carrie. I've been thinking of you a lot this week, as each time I reach for my book, the page opens to the lovely book mark you sent me :) I have really enjoyed being a homebody just lately, and reading in the garden has been so relaxing. Xx
DeleteBrighton is a lovely part of our coast, so much to see and do. Your pond looks wonderful, very natural, I'm reading more whilst hiding from the heat.
ReplyDeleteI'm so pleased that I went with my idea of creating a small pond. It has made a really lovely feature in the garden. Xx
DeleteSussex by the sea! So lovely! My in laws lived in Eastbourne. They have both passed away now. How I miss them! They loved living there, after retiring there in 1985. Ah,fish and chips, the best.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a beautiful part of the country. I can see why they would have loved living there. Xx
DeleteA lovely break away by the sea.
ReplyDeleteYour photographs are lovely ... beautiful sea views, wonderful blue skies and then back home your little pond looks lovely.
Take care, my good wishes.
All the best Jan
Thank you, Jan. Those views were pretty special. Xx

DeleteI've heard and read about Brighton, but, have never been there, of course. Thank you for sharing the pictures. It sounds like you've enjoyed a lovely holiday and I'm very glad that you felt well enough to go places and do things while you were there. Your pond at home looks like a lovely spot in which to sit and relax, too.
ReplyDeleteI do hope you continue to feel better and recover from your health issues. Sending healing prayers your way.
Thank you, Bless. Our trip to Brighton was so great. And we couldn't have timed it better - the weather was amazing! Xx

DeleteSo wonderful to hear from you Jules! . It looks like you had a lovely getaway…so good for the body and the heart. As always, you know I’m completely jealous - you find the best getaways and always share the most beautiful pictures. I’m glad you could “escape” And I hope that you’re feeling stronger. Take care - sending good wishes across the miles.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary. We had such a lovely few days there. And the timing was perfect - for the weather and for me! X
DeleteSo glad to hear Brighton gave you such a lift.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a great place. I've never visited, we always say we'll go for the football, but I think this year it was the first week of January, so not quite the vibe we would be looking for!
Hope the heat this week wasn't too draining for you.
Thank you, Sam. I'd never visited Brighton before, and I was pleasantly surprised at how lovely it was. I'd previously only seen images of the crowded beach on Bank Holidays, but thankfully it wasn't at all like that while we were there. X
DeleteThe photos are stunning. And the spuds ... yum. Hope you get your blogging rhyme back and that you feel better all the way soon. Cheers, Ivy.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ivy. You can't beat a chippy tea by the beach. Thankfully, we could eat in a sheltered dining area - away from the gulls!
DeleteOh Jules, I wish I could come and do some chores for you so that you can rest-up and recover. Your holiday looks blissful, what a beautiful part of the world. I have still to explore so much on this great big island of ours. Your garden pond is lovely, making me wish for my own xx
ReplyDeleteThat's incredibly kind of you, Christina. I might just take you up on your generous offer ;) That said, my energy levels have seen a huge improvement this week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this continues. X
DeleteI'm glad you enjoyed your time in and around Brighton and walking the Seven Sisters. The scenery looks stunning and the views from the 360 look amazing.
ReplyDeleteThe Iris in your pond is very pretty and I'm sure the dragonflies enjoy having somewhere to rest.
It sounds like you are making progress with your crochet squares and you are wise to take it slowly and not rush to finish for a set time. It will be finished when it is finished.
Wishing you a peaceful and gentle week.
Thank you, Beverley. We had such a lovely time in Brighton. It's always great to exolore.new places. Xx
DeleteLooks like you had a lovely few days in the Brighton area. I loved walking The Seven Sisters a few years ago. B x
ReplyDeleteThe walk was amazing. And such a contrast to the scenery that I'm used to. Xx

ReplyDeleteSummer has really taken off here. The weather has been lovely and warm. X
DeleteLovely photos Jules, it looks like you had a nice time away. I'm sorry you've not been well, I've not blogged for a while and feel a bit lost atm. It sounds like you've been suffering for a while bless you. I'm not sure what happened to you but I hope you'll be on the mend again soon. I've dislocated my shoulder, so everything is taking so long to do. I can knit now, but need to do lots of physio exercises before I have more movement.
ReplyDeleteTake care x
It's lovely to hear from you, Cathy. although I'm really sorry to hear about your dislocated shoulder. I hope it isn't too painful for you. Thank goodness for knitting :)
DeleteYour writing soothes. Isn't ametric a rhythm too?
ReplyDeleteThank you. X
DeleteI love the way you edged the pond. It really finishes it perfectly. I could kick myself for throwing all our big sandstone chunks in the skip.
ReplyDeleteYour trip to Brighton sounds lovely! What incredible pictures of the Seven Sisters! Your pond is beautiful and I like the Nasturtiums around it! We have been enjoying our pond nearly a year on from my husband making it! I am glad your energy coincided with your trip away!
