It's been a difficult few weeks. Recently, I experienced a bit of a health scare. In fact, I'm still finding things challenging day to day, but I think I've finally turned a corner. This weekend, I've begun to pick up, and I'm finally beginning to feel much more like myself once more. Prioritising my well-being, I've been back in the kitchen, this morning, cooking up some delicious, nourishing soup for my lunches this week, and also, some blackberry compote, to stir into my morning porridge.
Long walks have not been possible, but I have managed some short strolls through the fields and along the river. I've enjoyed watching the changing scenery and starkness of the landscape, as we hurtle towards the end of the year.
With only two weeks until the winter solstice, I'm wishing my time away. Longing for the wheel to turn, before we head towards the light, once again.
Just being outside in the fresh air has been enough to lift my spirits. Which is just as well, with more energetic activities off the table for the time being. Quiet evenings, cosy pyjamas and early nights are what's needed just now. Whether I like it or not, my body is dictating just how much I can do each day. My priorities have had to change and I've needed to let some things slide.
Back soon.
J. X

I'm so sorry to read that you've had a health scare, recently. I hope your recovery is going well and you are taking good care of yourself. Yes, please do make yourself a priority.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bless. It's an ongoing process, but I think I'm getting there. Xx
DeleteI’m sorry to hear you’ve had concerns about your health-those can weigh heavily on our minds. It sounds like you might be turning a corner, though, which is wonderful news. And yes, take this time of hibernation, time of early darkness to curl up and regain your strength. Don’t think of it as letting things slide, think of it as taking some necessary time for you. And that is absolutely just fine!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your warm wishes, Mary. These dark evenings lend themselves to hibernation, but I'm looking forward to the return of the light. X
DeleteI think we all do too much at this time of year and should probably be hibernating! I hope you restore your health, it sounds like you have made a good start. Take care x
ReplyDeleteI have a terrible habit of not prioritising my own needs, until it's too late. X
DeleteI was sorry to read that you've recently had a health scare.
ReplyDeleteSending my good wishes and hoping that your recovery is going well.
Soups are wonderfully warming and nourishing at this time of year, and so much variety...enjoy every mouthful :)
All the best Jan
Thank you, Jan. I'm prioritising healthy meals and a gentle dose of fresh air - my go-to whenever I'm feeling unwell. X
DeleteSorry to hear about your health scare, I wish you a speedy recovery. Taking time for ourselves, especially this time of year when everything is so busy is hard, but we should take the time to do it, even if that only mean getting out for short strolls and some early nights. Take care x
ReplyDeleteThank you Maggie. I think I've finally turned a corner. Although it's going to be a quiet festive season this year. X
DeleteI hope your rest and short walks will lead to a full recovery from your health scare.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terra. They are certainly helping. Xx
DeleteI hope your recovery is going full steam, our world is far too fast these days, nature is a true healing place.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Marlene. Chugging gently, rather than going full steam, but still in the right direction :)
DeleteWishing you better days. In the meanwhile embrace indoor cosy moments. B x
ReplyDeleteThank you, Barbara. X
DeleteI'm sorry that times have been challenging just lately. We often take our health for granted when all is going well, it's at times when we're thrown a curve ball that we realise how we need to look after ourselves. Time to take things easier for a while, it's the right time of year to hunker down, that solstice, and the lighter evenings, will arrive before we know it.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jo. It's been so dark and gloomy this week, that it's been very easy to keep hunkered down. Xx
DeleteHope you feel better soon! Fresh air makes such a difference.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sarah. You can't beat fresh air. X
DeleteHoping your feel a little better each day, take things easy and enjoy all those gentle things both inside and in the fresh air)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rosie. X
DeleteI’m sorry to hear about your health scare. I hope you are able to gradually and carefully regain where you were before. I wish you cosy times inside, with some good things to read, and an enjoyment of taking it easy. Your soup plans sound good with some gentle walks thrown in. Planning ahead is always helpful I find when I need to take it easy, but want something to look forward to. Jean in Winnipeg.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jean. I came across the soup recipe online and it's really delicious. I must remember to share it. Xx
DeleteHello Jules! I'm so sorry to hear about your recent health scare. I am glad to hear you've turned a corner and are beginning to feel more like yourself again. Do take it easy and take care of yourself, especially this time of year. Like you, I'm counting down the days to the winter solstice. I miss the light so much this time of year, but brighter evenings are indeed ahead. Thinking of you. I hope you and Lily have a wonderful holiday season!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Julia. It's been incredibly gloomy here all week, and now we have another storm on the way! Brighter days will return. Xx
DeleteOh Jules love. I'm sorry to hear you've had a health scare. At least it's the time of year to snuggle up on the sofa with a good book and a hot chocolate.. Rest up and recover properly.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cherie. I will. Xx
DeleteOh Jules - I'm so sorry to hear this! I am happy to hear you're on the healing side of things. I empathize with how it is to have the rug pulled out from under you for a bit and realize how much I took for granted when I feel good. Sending prayers and lots of hugs for you to feel yourself soon. And agree - it's so good to let things slide and not be hard on yourself. Do whatever you need to heal. If I lived close by I'd bring you some good soup and a fun goodie! Sending it all in spirit. Plus, I do have a little box of fun on its way to you and Lily but have no idea when it will show up. Lol So be on the lookout for a fun box from the states. 🎄❤️💚 Blessings always. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carrie. And I was so relieved to learn that Matt has been given the all clear. A huge relief.
DeleteOh, you are too kind, lovely lady. We shall be watching that mail box with anticipation and excitement. 🎄
I am sorry to hear about your health scare but glad that you have turned a corner and that you have enjoyed your short strolls. Our bodies are good at telling us to take it easy, aren’t they? Take care xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Christina. I should really learn to listen to what my body is trying to tell me. Xx
DeleteNothing like taking time for ourselves... feel better.
