As far as Octobers go, this one has been rather lovely. Autumn has been spectacular, so far, and Mother Nature certainly knows how to put on a fabulous display. The temperature dropped, almost as soon as the clocks changed, and it's quite reassuring that it all feels perfectly seasonal. I'm beginning to feel much more settled, knowing the wheel is turning exactly as it should.
I've been off work this week, which has given me the opportunity to get on top of things at home. This always helps me to feel much more rested and in control. The house is clean and tidy once more, and I'm still noticing the benefits of my earlier de-cluttering. I've managed to pass on another two bags to the charity shop, and if Lily doesn't stop growing soon, I'll be having to pass on many more. I still need to decorate, but I think that is more likely to be in the new year now. At least it will feel that bit more manageable, seeing as I won't have as much to work around.
At the start of the week, we enjoyed a few days away, staying in a lovely little cottage, in a village, near Richmond. Besides one incredibly windy morning, we were so very lucky with the weather. The sun shone every day, and it felt good to spend so much time outdoors. The autumn colours looked stunning, and the riverside circular was so beautiful that we walked it twice! It really didn't have anything to do with the delicious chocolate brownies they served at the cafe, I promise ;) The top photograph is the view from where we were sat.
On our journey home, we stopped off by the River Ure, and walked along Aysgarth Falls. Recent rainfall had resulted in a significant amount of water, and the noise from the falls was incredible.

So glad to hear you had some time away-especially when the weather is so beautiful. You always find the prettiest spots to visit. Wonderful time spent together making memories-and who can resist a chocolate brownie?!
ReplyDeleteWe got so lucky with the weather, Mary. It was great to relax and enjoy a few days away. Xx
DeleteSounds like a wonderful week off work! I'm so glad you were able to get away for a few days and enjoyed some beautiful weather and scenery, not to mention chocolate brownies! :D Love Jack-o-Lanterns, too, and yummy toasted pumpkin seeds. :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed a lovely week off work. It just went so fast :)
DeleteThey say that a change is as good as a rest, and it's a good time to have a few days away to recharge the batteries before winter is upon us. It's a beautiful part of the country, plenty to see around that area. We always decorate for Halloween even though we don't have young children, it's fun seeing all the youngsters in the neighbourhood in their costumes when they come trick or treating. Glad you and Lily had a good time.
ReplyDeleteIt was great to get away and relax for a few days, especially when we didn't have very far to travel. Richmond is really beautiful. Xx
DeleteYour photo's as ever are stunning, glad you enjoyed your trip, and the weather was kind.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Marlene. The weather was incredibly kind. We were very lucky. Xx
DeleteRichmond is a lovely little town. Your photos have captured October perfectly. I remember the days when we had to try and carve a turnip...so glad that pumpkins are available now.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes! I do recall the days of turnip carving. I'm not sure how we managed it, back then. X
DeleteWhat a lovely place Richmond looks - I'd only ever associated it with Rishi Sunak before!
ReplyDeleteThe ruined abbey looks marvellously atmospheric and your pumpkin is fabulous.
I like Lily's choice of costume! xxx
The abbey was amazing. And the walk along the river was so picturesque.
DeleteLily looked great in her costume, although she was slightly worried when I went at her with my black eyeliner - nose and whiskers :)
Beautiful photos of your time in Richmond, it's good to have a few days away but also good to get cleaning and de-cluttering done too. It sounds as if you had a lovely Halloween, I like your pumpkin carvings
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rosie. I find that a few days away is just enough time to switch off and relax. X
DeleteHello, dear friend. Your post today was lovely and cozy, perfect for me to enjoy this November afternoon! Your getaway sounds - and looks - amazing. I am always in awe of the beauty in your world. Thank you for sharing. Blessed November!

All the best Jan
Thank you, Jan. I have a feeling November will pass by just as quickly. Xx
DeleteSounds like you had a lovely time in a beautiful part of the country. Good luck growing pumpkins next year.
ReplyDeleteWe managed to grow four of our own pumpkins last year. Fingers crossed we can be successful again. X
DeleteBeautiful photos, Jules! And I also love October! Autumn colours, fresh, crisp air, even the rain!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. The trees have been incredibly beautiful this year. Xx
DeleteI remember doing that circular walk back in May. Such a pretty area. Glad you had a lovely half term. B x
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely walk, especially at this time of year. Xx
DeleteIt looks like you and Lily had a wonderful time away from home. A well deserved "reset" (as the call it on the Instagram) x
ReplyDeleteIt was really lovely, thanks, Christina. And the house we stayed in was so cosy. Xx
DeleteHello Jules,
ReplyDeleteWe feel that it is important to embrace every season in order to enjoy the everyday and be grateful for what beauty lies in the Natural World. The images you show here are so pretty and, like you, we find October a good month to travel and experience something new before hunkering down in Winter.
We usually like to get away at this time of year, before the darker days really begin to set in. Xx
DeleteIt’s years since I’ve been to Richmond and your photos make me want to visit! I do love Aysgarth falls though, the Dales really does do Autumn well! Great pumpkins. Xxx
ReplyDeleteRichmond is really beautiful. I would definitely recommend a visit. Xx
DeleteHappy November dear Friend! I so agree, my fellow kindred spirit, that the world is better for having October in it. 🍁🧡 I love that Lily went as a black cat. :) You know I'm sure partial to them. I savored over your toasted pumpkin seeds pic as I didn't carve or do that this year and it's always a fave - so I'm living through you. Your photos are SO stunning!! Truly frameworthy and what a beautiful and magical place. Autumn perfection of a post. I want to tell you how thankful I am for the gift of you dear Jules as we begin this month of gratitude. Blessings. xo
ReplyDeleteLovely Carrie, you always say the sweetest things. We have been blessed with some beautiful autumn days this year, and I've been soaking them all up, before we head towards the darkest days of the year. Hopefully, It won't be too long until I'm watching the forecast for reports of snow :)
DeleteLovely images! Thanks for taking on me on your journey. =)
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome. Thank you, Crystal. Xx
DeleteI'm glad you are enjoying the Autumn days. It sounds like the short break was the perfect trip for both of you. It has been good to catch up with you, Jules x
ReplyDeleteThank you, Beverley. I hope you are well rested after your travels. Xx
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous photos!! Thanks for sharing. I love how the trees turn all different shades of yellow, orange, red, brown, and gold during this time of year. Sometimes purple, too. Just stunning. I hope your autumn is filled with lots of love and joy! 🍂
ReplyDeleteThe trees have been absolutely glorious this year. They have lost most of their leaves now, and the countryside will soon begin to look more bleak and wintry. Xx
DeleteThat looks like a lovely area to visit, I've made a note of it. We are tied to visiting Hampshire for our holidays to see my Mum. Now my Dad has passed, Mark suggested we spend a few days near her, seeing her for an hour or 2 each day. Then go up to the Peaks for a few days exploring. I'm glad you had a nice time and good weather. I wonder if the water was used in Robin Hood, and the stone ruins for Merlin? It just looks familiar x
ReplyDeleteRichmond is beautiful, and we really enjoyed our time there. I wouldn't know about the ruins and waterfalls, but they were definitely worth visiting. Xx
