There is no denying that November is my least favourite month of the year. Dark mornings and even darker evenings. Gloomy, wet and windy weather. Bright, blue sky days, where the leaves almost appear to glow in the autumn sunshine have been too few and far between.
Hallowe'en was quiet again this year. We received several callers, slightly older than I had expected, but all of whom were lovely, polite, and had made a lot of effort with their costumes, so they were more than welcome to some treats.
Lately, most of my weekends have been spent close to home. A busy working week means I need to run errands or catch up with housework. Finding that work/life balance has proved difficult since starting back again after the summer. Still, things should hopefully improve as time goes on - she says optimistically :)
Last Saturday, we enjoyed a trip into town. Unusually for us, we travelled by bus, which was surprisingly straightforward, given as for some reason I am absolutely terrible at reading bus time tables. We found some new winter boots for Lily and I managed to pick up a few less exciting bits and pieces for myself, before rewarding our achievements (I don't particularly enjoy shopping) with lunch out. After which I may or may not have also bought some mince pies from a well known high street bakery :)
During the afternoon I made bonfire toffee and later that evening we lit our sparklers in the garden. Fireworks were thin on the ground here this year. Not that I am complaining. I do love a proper, organised display, but most back garden fireworks can be a little underwhelming to say the least. Fortunately, neither of the cats appeared bothered by the few that had been set off nearby.
Yes, that's right. I said CATS. I now have two!!!
Introducing...Boo.
Boo is just under 4 months old, he has the most velvety soft fur, bright green eyes and besides proving to be somewhat of a house plant menace, he has settled in just fine.

Hello to sweet Boo ...
ReplyDeletePleased your Halloween and fireworks went okay.
Enjoy the week ahead.
All the best Jan
Thank you, Jan. Boo has made himself very much at home. X
DeleteHello, Boo. You look cute and pleased with your living place!
ReplyDeleteHe's settled in really well. X
DeleteLove your cat pumpkin and Boo is so cute!!
ReplyDeleteWe didn't get any trick or treaters - our house is too remote.
I loved seeing their costumes. They had put in a lot of effort. X
DeleteOh, he is gorgeous, Jules. I love your writing; it takes me there. It is getting dark earlier here, too. I am actually enjoying the grey skies and rain/snow, as we have been in drought here in California for years. Fireworks are forbidden, due to the wildfires. It's so interesting to read about your life on the other side of the world...
ReplyDeleteI would have hardly known it was bonfire night here, as there were so few fireworks. I'm sure many pet owners breathed a sigh of relief. Thankfully, they have never bothered Mog, and Boo seemed totally disinterested in the few we heard. X
DeleteBoo is beautiful!!! Oh my goodness! And your Jack-o-Lantern is purrrfect! See what I did there! : )
ReplyDeleteI did see! :) Thank you. X
DeleteOh, Boo is just so cute! What does Mog think about a new addition to the family? Lovely pumpkin carving, too!
ReplyDeleteMog just keeps looking at me as if to say, 'What is this?' But she's been very good with him, and in return he's not pushing too many boundaries :)
DeleteWhat a gorgeous boy and I love his name. My Slinky came to me at this time of year, we share my birthday. Welcome, Boo. xx
ReplyDeleteMog actually arrived on the 31st October, which is how she gained her name from the Meg and Mog books I was reading to Lily at the time. Boo arrived on the 28th, and he also rather good at hiding, gaining himself a few unrepeatable names in the process :) X
DeleteAwww, Boo is gorgeous. I guessed from your last post that you may be getting a kitten. Actually, my first thought was a puppy, and then I remembered you had Mog so I thought a kitten was more likely. No mince pies here yet, I'm holding out until December.
ReplyDeleteIt would be lovely to have a dog, especially with all the walking I do and Lily not being quite as frightened of them as she once was, but with my working hours it just wouldn't be fair.
DeleteWell done on your mince pie restraint :)
Welcome Boo! How lovely for you. I’m sure he will brighten your November days. B x😻
ReplyDeleteSomething needs to, Barbara. The weather has been so very gloomy and doesn't look set to change any time soon. X
DeleteBoo is beautiful. He looks so soft and cuddly. xx
ReplyDeleteHe is, Joy. And he is also a bundle of mischief. X
DeleteFireworks were going off all over the place here on both Saturday and Sunday . The poor animals must have been terrified. My DIL would live Boo. They have five cats and absolutely adore them. X
ReplyDeleteOh no! I really feel for the animals (and their owners). My old dog used to be terrified and wouldn't know what to do with himself, no matter what I tried to do to reassure him. X
DeleteThe pumpkin is lovely...so clever, and I love the name Boo...perfect for an October addition to the family!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary. The pumpkin seemed appropriate this year. X
DeleteBoo is absolutely gorgeous, how's he getting on with Mog? Boys seem a lot more accepting of fellow cats than the girls (or, at lest, in my experience!)
ReplyDeleteThe fireworks here have been relentless for over a fortnight what with Diwali, Guy Fawkes and Guru Nanak's birthday (today!) it's been like the Somme with all the explosions! xxx
They are getting on quite well, especially considering Boo is stuck indoors for the time being. X
DeleteWhat a darling - but how does Mog feel about sharing you?
ReplyDeleteIs this a rescue baby?
Boo is a rescue baby :)
DeleteMog doesn't seem to mind too much - she's a very independent lady. Xx
Adoreable!!!! How does you old cat get along with him? ☺
ReplyDeleteGlad your Halloween was nice.
November is a hard month to love usually. But so far it has been being sunny. It's the cold rain and gloomy skies thst can get depressing...
🍎❤🍎❤🍎❤🍎
Mog seems fine. She has set her boundaries :)
DeleteBoo is adorable, I don't like dark cold November either it's my birthday month as well so it means I'm another year older. xx
ReplyDeleteThe seemingly endless, gloomy days can feel a little depressing after a while. I hope you have some lovely things planned for your special day. Xx
DeleteNovember is definitely a month that takes some getting used to. I'm not a big fan of darkness by 5:30 in the evening. It sounds as if you and Lily had a nice day in town on Saturday - I'm not a big of fan of shopping either. And I have to say that your new kitten, Boo, is adorable!!
ReplyDeleteIt isn't often we go into town, but it was nice to have a little mooch around, even if it was pouring with rain while we were there. X
Deleteaw Boo is just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jill. He's very sweet. X
DeleteI love the pumpkin but I love Boo even more. He looks adorable, and well done on getting a rescue kitten, especially a black one. I've always known that black cats were supposed to be lucky but many rescue places say that people won't adopt them because they are considered to be the opposite. I'm glad Mog has accepted him and I hope he lives a long and happy life in your family :)
ReplyDeleteBoo seems very sweet. He's settling in well now, although Mog keeps reminding him who's in charge :)
DeleteThere are no youngsters in our village and in the 29 years I've lived in this village I'vew never had any trick or treat callers. I can't recall what happened in the last village I lived in for 20 years on the Island when our children were growing up although we did have a small home firework display for the local children and friends for several years.
ReplyDeleteI know not everyone agrees with it but I quite enjoy the tradition. Just as long as they only call at houses displaying a pumpkin, which indicates they are happy to receive any trick or treaters. Xx
DeleteOh Boo is adorable, you are so amazing to take on a rescue kitty. I hope he has a long and happy life with you.
ReplyDeleteHe is a lovely kitten. I hope so too. Xx
DeleteBoo is a georgeous kitten and I hope he settles in quickly with you and the family.
ReplyDeleteYour kitty pumpkin looks great.
Thank you, Beverley. He's definitely settled in. It feels a lot like having a toddler running around the house :)
DeleteHalloween is a big event here in Winnipeg. We had 45 children at our house with groups of mums and dads walking with them. The older children we had were also in imaginative costumes. My son had 146 children - in an area of the city where there are more families. How many turn out depends on the weather, this time it was a beautiful mild fall day. It was an enjoyable event, the children loving being out in their costumes. One of my first ones a tiny tot in a unicorn costume could barely manage the steps, but was keen to receive her treat. There is also strategy involved, we chose mini chocolate bars so that if there are any left over, we will be happy too! I also received a hint from a grandchild that because of our small numbers, anything left would be happily received. In the past we have had early blizzards with high snowdrifts and few children venturing out. This year was a treat for all. Jean/Winnipeg
ReplyDeleteWow! That's a LOT. I don't know of anyone who would recieve even close to that amount of callers over here.
DeleteIt sounds like you all had a lot of fun. I enjoy the leftovers as well :) Xx
Oh my gosh I love Boo,he looks full of mischief and so beautiful.Of course I still Adore Mog too.Great photos as always, loving that Pumpkin.xxx
ReplyDeleteThat is because he is full of mischief! :) He is a lovely kitten though. X
