Sunday Sunrise

It was another quiet weekend for me. As usual, I spent a lot of the time working my way through any chores I missed during the week. On Saturday morning I went for the weekly shop before catching up with the laundry. As part of my decluttering process, the kitchen cupboards were cleaned and tidied again (I still don't understand why they get into such a state in the first place), then I treated the houseplants to a good watering.

I baked a courgette loaf cake and some flapjack, then replenished the bird feeders. They are limited to four fat balls every other day now, as they are getting through them so quickly - I'm sure those Starlings sit and wait for me each morning. While I was in the garden, I noticed the lemon trees have worryingly lost a few of their leaves. I hope this is only a temporary response to them being moved outdoors and they will be showing positive signs of growth again soon, they have been doing so well until now.

On Sunday morning, I was awake early, even by my standards, as I had arranged to go out for a sunrise walk. I set off at 4.50am, which wasn't quite as difficult as I expected, having prepared my rucksack and clothes the night before. All I needed to do was grab my phone and fill my flask of coffee before leaving the house. My short car journey was very straightforward, the roads being almost completely clear at that time, aside from a deer :)

The morning air was cool and still, which came as a pleasant surprise, as the forecast had been pretty mixed previously and I had expected it to be quite breezy.

As we began our ascent, the sun crept slowly above the skyline, silhouetting the fells of Yoke, Ill Bell and Froswick behind us. The morning was bright and clear and the views over the surrounding fells were stunning, by the time we reached the summit, it was still only 6.30am. It was quiet and peaceful at that time of the morning, the perfect opportunity to sit and enjoy the views while enjoying my coffee. Bliss! Now, if only I could persuade Lily such an early start might be a good idea in future? :)
I was back home by 8am, to enjoy a mug of fresh coffee and a pain au chocolat, as a little treat for my 'efforts'.

In the afternoon, and taking Lily with me this time, we went for much a less strenuous walk through the fields and into the woods. The woodland floor was covered by a carpet of Wild Garlic and Bluebells as far as the eye could see. It is always so lovely there and it is our go-to walk when we just want to get out  for some fresh air without venturing far from home.

I am still reading everyone's blogs, but for some reason I am unable to leave comments using my phone at the moment, so please bear with me while I try and figure out what the issue may be. Better still, if you know what might be causing the problem, please, please let me know, so that I can fix it.

  1. I love wild garlic flowers, they look so pretty, but I just can't stand the smell of the stuff. It must have been lovely and peaceful up on the fells so early in the morning, you got some good photos too :)

    1. I quite like the scent of wild garlic, just as long as it isn't too overpowering. For me, it signifies the arrival of spring. X

  2. For best results water the house plants with distilled water.( I buy the water at the supermarket or at the pharmacy).

    1. I am usually awake early, so getting out at that time wasn't too much of a challenge for me. I think it would definitely be worth the effort for future walks, but I doubt Lily would agree :)

  7. What a special walk. There is something magical about being out so early.

Apparently Google have made another change to the blog comment system, that may be why you are having trouble. If you use an iPhone, and Safari, I've read that turning off a setting for 'do not track' suddenly enables commenting again. You probably want to do a search for that . . . in case I have not remembered it correctly.

    1. Jayne, you are a star! (Although I knew that already). My phone installed an update last week, so I had my suspicions it would be something along those lines. This appears to have done the trick. Thank you. Xx

  12. Beautiful photos...

You read blogs on your phone??????

Oh dear, how can you appreciate the work which goes into a post, on that tiny screen? How does your blog look, on your phone?

I do all my blogging, on my computer. Where everything shows, as it is designed to show........

    1. Thank you. Yes, I often read blogs on my phone!
Some blog owners already choose to display their blogs as you would view them on a laptop (this can be changed in 'themes'), and for those who (like myself) use mobile view, I can simply turn my phone on it's side and click 'view web version' if I choose to. X

  16. Thanks for taking us with you on today's walk. I am so much better for it. :)

My lemon tree died due to a white fly infestation. I'd never heard of such a thing before. It is starting over and is lovely, growing at a good pace. I'd be shocked if it bore fruit this year.

  17. Delighted to hear, that you are letting your dandilions grow! I think they are pretty. A bright yellow is always pretty to me. :-)

Here, where we get very cold temps and ice/snow in winter, when spring comes, everything doesn't pop into bloom, as quickly as your country does. So early dandilions are even more important, for food for the bees.

    Gentle hugs....

  19. Oooh lovely, I can smell the fresh morning air from here! Beautiful pictures Jules. It must have been so uplifting to be up that early for a walk and back for 8am breakfast of well deserved coffee and pain au chocloate :) I'd certainly have trouble getting my sleepy sausages up at that time of the morning. Your prepared bag antics reminded me of a girlie holiday years ago where we had to be up at 4:30 for a flight. My friends laughed because I slept fully clothed, hair done, shoes on, rucksack and flask of tea at the side of the bed ready to go. Whilst my friends scrambled around trying to get dressed and packed, I was able to stay in bed a little longer, then I made a point of standing up purposefully and striding out ;) ;) :) Blogger is being a funny so and so with the comments. I am laptop-ing it as I am a terrible one finger typer! xXx

We've got a carpet of wild garlic in the garden, every year I say I'll do something with it and every year I don't - it is stunning to look at, though! xxx
