Boxing Day

I had such a lovely time yesterday, that today has felt a little flat. The novelty of the previous night's peace and quiet had been short lived and I found myself missing the general activity and chaos of Christmas Day. Grateful, however, for the opportunity to have even had that.

I was awake early, as usual, and enjoyed my first coffee of the day (there have been many) by the glow of the fairy lights. Our little tree has done well this year.  Although I've kept it well watered, I've still needed to vacuum up the pine needles frequently. Not that you'd notice, as fortunately there aren't any bare patches. It's staying right where it is for now but will probably get planted in the garden next weekend.

I've spent the day doing very little, it's been pleasantly relaxed. Had the weather been better we'd have gone out for a walk, but aside from a brief visit this morning, the wind and rain have seen me keeping warm and cosy indoors for the remainder of the day. It hasn't stopped me checking out possible routes for the week ahead, however :)

Meals have been picky, made up of Christmas leftovers - crackers, cheese, chocolates and gingerbread - and my body isn't thanking me for it. Too much rich food, I've been feeling lethargic and sluggish all afternoon. You'd think I would know better at my age. Hopefully a good night's sleep and some 'proper' food tomorrow will have me feeling brighter and a bit more energised. Someone please hide the Quality Street.

How was your day?

J. X

  1. I've been off work since Wednesday, all shopping was over and done with by then and with only myself and Michael to think about I've completely lost track of what day it is as it just feels like permanent Sunday. The weather has been rubbish today, raining for most of it so the dogs have only been out in the garden and I haven't been out at all, it's been a complete pj day with a couple of musicals to watch on tv and just sandwiches to eat when feeling peckish.

    1. Lily stayed in her pyjamas all day as well. I'd promised her she could, and with the weather being so miserable we had no intentions of venturing out. X

  2. Quality street hidden here at the moment although that didn’t stop me attacking the chocolate truffles . We’ve had a bit of a tv fest this evening before a glowing fire. Definitely need exercise tomorrow. B x

    1. Chocolate is my downfall. It's much too easy to keep reaching into that tin. X

  3. I managed to avoid that feeling of having overeaten by not being the cook yesterday. However, I did bring home some leftovers which we started on tonight. A bit of plum pudding is still in the fridge but I can't face it today!

    1. I wouldn't say I over ate, it's more that I'd eaten the 'wrong' things. I never learn :)

  4. It's quite normal to feel a bit of a let down after the holidays, I think. The rainy weather probably didn't help, either. But, hopefully, there will be some sunny days when you can go on walks with Lily and before long, it will be New Year's Day and back to school/work! We've been eating Christmas leftovers, ourselves. :)

    1. It just seemed so quiet after Christmas Day, when we'd all been together. Time now to plan some walks, I think. X

  5. LOL - I know exactly what you mean. Ditto for me too and it's back on track today, for sure.

  6. Boxing Day for us is a re-run of Christmas Day but without the gifts. Boxing Day was my late mother's birthday usually spent with us so it's a day for remembering.

    1. I'd have loved to have walked off the excesses of Christmas Day but the weather was just too windy and wet. X

  7. I love the picky leftover meals at this time of year, very quiet here after last night's storm.

    1. I love that as well, but these picky meals just don't seem to agree with me. X

  8. Alone which feels strange - various lovely veg for dinner - my carer took my Turkey Breast to cook for me. As usual nothing really exciting on TV although I watched The Repair Shop and The Sewing Bee - then trundled off to a warm snug bed. This morningthe storm has passed and w seem to have escaped the worst.

    1. I'm glad you avoided any storm damage, Pat. It was very windy here. X

  9. Yes, we've been living off picky plates and garlic bread and I'm feeling all the more sluggish for it. A day with three balanced meals would be good ... but I feel the need to eat my way through my shelf of the fridge ;-)

    1. That's the thing. I end up having to eat it all, as I don't like waste. X

  10. I really enjoy the days between Christmas and new year, Mick gets them off work every year and it's nice to just chill after all the Christmas Day festivities.

  11. I know what you mean about the food. I had a bowl of cereal at 2 yesterday and picked. I did manage a long beach walk in the morning.

  12. Well it looks like my Boxing Day was pretty much the same as yours although I did a lot of catching up in Blogland and writing emails and letters. I also had a very long virtual catch-up with one of the daughters in Canada of a very dear deceased friend together with all the usual WhatsApp chats (both audio and text) that seem to make up my days when I don't go out. Sorry. I do go on a bit once I start. I'm glad that you are hoping to get out next week. I hope the weather is good for you.

    1. I did that too. It was good to catch up with everyone's news.
I've begun to look at some possible walks for the week ahead, but whether we get to do them or not is dependent on the weather. X

  13. I love left over meals. I made scalloped potatoes from our ham yesterday. I'm thinking a little pot of bean soup for today.

  14. I am having similar 'festive over eating' issues- but it does not stop me for reaching for another chocolate - sigh - some serious walking is needed (however better weather is needed too!)

  16. I cooked a ham yesterday so sliced potatoes and onions in butter and cream, the ham and lots of crunchy salad fed us at lunchtime...whereas tonight crackers pate and cheese went down a treat! x

  17. It sounds like you've had a very contented Christmas time, Jules. We too have been nibbling on leftovers and 'sampling' the Quality Street chocolates our dear neighbours gave us and I won't mention that there are NO rumballs left whatsoever. Ahem...no idea where they went!! MegXx

    1. I haven't eaten rum truffles in years. It's a pity I can't say the same for the rest of the chocolates :)

  18. Trying a comment! I’ve had a lazy day and braved the weather with Bluebell and we were
Fortunate to dodge the rain. I had an actual tomato today! Ok it was on a turkey and stuffing sandwich but it was a tomato!
