I've had a busy week, and I was already feeling extremely tired, when Lily became poorly during the night. Instead of going along to our wildlife group, as planned, today has been filled with rest and laundry. Lots of laundry. Thankfully, she feels fine now and has even managed to eat a little, she's just wiped out. Hopefully, a good night's sleep will see us both feeling much brighter in the morning.
At least the weather has been good. Sunny and breezy, perfect for getting all the washing dried. The windows have been opened wide and the house filled with fresh air. Mog has spent most of the day fast asleep on my bed.
This morning I spent a while pottering around the garden. I've picked more of our ripened blackcurrants and spent some time photographing the wildflowers, which have grown significantly, thanks to the recent wet weather. Due to a lack of garden activity, the bare patches of grass have completely covered over now. I had hoped we might have spent more time out there, but we just haven't had a decent spell of hot weather so far this year. There's still time and I'm feeling hopeful :)
Earlier in the week, we enjoyed the school sports day, and I'm very proud to report that Lily came second in her sprint and what has now become tradition, first in the skipping race. I swear she runs faster if she has a rope in her hands! It was so heartening to see all the children encouraging one another and joining in the fun, the later finishers receiving even louder cheers than the race leaders. As the results were announced the children were all given ice lollies for their efforts. A thoroughly lovely afternoon.

Sounds good how school sports day was conducted/
ReplyDeleteIt was a fun day, Pat. They took part in team activities throughout the morning, then individual races in the afternoon. X
DeleteSorry to read that Lily has been feeling ill, hopefully after a good night's rest she will feel much better in the morning. I think Mog has the right idea - I'd do the same myself if I could :)
ReplyDeleteCats usually have the right idea, Eunice ;)
DeleteOh, your garden is an absolute delight, well done on all the beautiful native plants that your bees are clearly enjoying (envious of the borage, mine is not in flower yet).
ReplyDeleteGlad Lily is recovering, fingers crossed the good weather is waiting for her school holiday to commence. You're right, compared to other parts of England we just have not had any real warmth yet.
The bees are loving the wildflowers, Jayne. I've already been out in the garden this morning and there is a sound of buzzing in the air. Some more poppies have flowered since yesterday and they seem to be the favourite. X
DeleteA rest day can do wonders. Glad to hear Lily is feeling better already. Sports day sounds like fun, just how it should be. Congratulations to Lily for being super fast.
ReplyDeleteWe have enjoyed an undisturbed night. I am planning for another restful day and then a short walk through the fields. X
DeleteI am sorry to hear that Lily has not been feeling well, I do hope she continues to improve. Your wildflowers are wonderful Jules, so beautiful. I know what you mean about the weather not being quite right for sitting outside, I too am hopeful it will become so. The sports day at Lily's school sounds perfect, so heartening to hear.
ReplyDeleteThank you. We both slept much better last night.
DeleteI hope the weather begins to pick up soon, as I am looking forward to spending some time at the lake. X
hope both of you are feeling back to normal tomorrow - I remember those not-very-well-nights resulting in laundry the next morning - when my little person was pale and wan and feeling bit better and me feeling absolutely knackered!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kate. Those nights are exhausting :) At least Lily has been able to rest up over the weekend. X
DeleteSometimes a little rest is what we need...and our body is telling us to slow down a bit. Glad you're both feeling better...and such beautiful photos. It's wonderful to see what's blooming "across the miles." I always loved seeing the kids enjoy elementary school field day...just curious, when does school end there? Our schools generally wrap up by the end of May or early June. Sadly, they begin in late August...not enough summertime for kids to just be kids (in my humble opinion!) Mary
ReplyDeleteWe have just over two weeks of the summer term remaining, then school is closed until early September. Hopefully the break will coincide with some better weather for us. X
DeleteSports Day sound fun ...
ReplyDeleteThe grandchildren were telling me they only have three more weeks at school and then it's summer holiday time, it only seems like yesterday they were going back to school last September, and now they will be finishing the present academic year, where do the days and weeks go?
Hope Lily and you will feel a lot better and more refreshed soon.
All the best Jan
PS lovely photographs on your post
Thank you, Jan. It has felt like a busy time, with school and all other activities returning to normal, following the last two years. The children appear to be more tired than usual and we are all looking forward to a well earned rest. X
DeleteSorry to hear Lily has been feeling poorly; hope she recovers soon. Sports day sounds like it was a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteYour wildflowers are looking great and I'm sure the whole garden looks lovely with them blooming. Hope you get to spend some time out relaxing in the garden as the summer progresses.
Thank you, Bless. Lily is still asleep just now and she has enjoyed an undisturbed night. X
DeleteSports days are fun, I hope your daughter is feeling better now. Your wildflowers are ahead of mine.
ReplyDeleteAll children performed brilliantly. Especially the younger ones who, thanks to the pandemic, haven't experienced a sports day attended by parents before. X
DeleteThat's great. I remember all of my friends cheering for me when I was doing a lousy floor routine in gymnastics. The judge just shook her head...Glad that Lily is feeling better. Pretty flowers!
ReplyDeleteIt was so lovely to see the whole school and come together for the afternoon. These type of events have been sadly lacking over the last two years. X
DeleteThat's rotten for Lily and not nice for you either. I hope she recovers quickly and whatever she has doesn't latch on to you. x
ReplyDeleteAs well as feeling bad for Lily, it is always a worry I will be next! So far, so good. Xx
DeleteGood to know Lily is feeling better now and you are both well rested. Well done to her for doing so brilliantly well in her sports day. Your garden looks wonderful Jules, beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eileen. Lily appears to be much better this morning, after a good night's sleep. A healthy dose of fresh air is the plan for later today. Xx
DeleteHello Jules, hope you are all nicely rested and recovered. That's funny, my eldest daughter had her sports day and also came first in skipping! All I heard about were the icepops! Beautiful flowers, take care xXx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lulu. And well done, to your daughter! Lily gets her skipping skills from me :)
DeleteThe wild flowers are now beginning to blossom forth as we've had an abatement in the bitter wind and some sun as well. They add so much to the garden.
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely to see the garden full of pollinators. Low maintenance as well :)
DeleteWell done Lily for doing so well on Sports Day, I'm sorry she hasn't been feeling too well, you will be both looking forward to the Summer holidays they will soon be here. Your garden is looking fabulous! have a lovely Sunday. xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. Not long to go now. I'm feeling ready for the break. X
DeleteRest, in all the beauty of your home garden..
ReplyDeleteAnd hope Lily was just overtired as well...
Lily is feeling much better now, thank you. X
DeleteYour garden looks so lovely , a rainbow of colours. Hope Lily is on the mend now. X
ReplyDeleteThank you, Shazza. There is a lovely mix of colour this year. X
DeleteI'm glad Lily is feeling better and that she won her Sports Day race.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is looking gorgeous. xxx
Thank you, Vix. And I'm glad you're also feeling much better now. X
DeleteSorry to hear Lily has been poorly. Thinking of her and you and sending get well wishes. She did brilliantly in her school races though and you must be a very proud mum.
ReplyDeleteI can see why the wildlife love your garden, it is beautiful.
Thank you, Beverley, Lily is feeling much better. It must have just been a 24hr thing, and at least she didn't miss sports day!
DeleteAlways proud of her. X
I hope Lily is much better now. It's always draining on the parents just as much as the children themselves when they're ill so I hope you've recovered after your rest too. Yes, it's the season of sports days, no mention of you joining in the mum's race though, haha.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jo. Yes, I was exhausted the following day and glad of a rest, but at least I wasn't poorly.
DeleteThankfully ,they don't have a parent's race at Lily's school :)
Hi,Sorry I am way behind with visiting your blog.Hope by now you and Lily are feeling much better.LOVE the photos, really Stunning.Cuddle Mog for me.xx
ReplyDeleteI'm behind with everything myself just now, Lee :) I will be sure to give Mog a cuddle when I see her, as she spends a lot of her time in the back field during the summer. Xx
DeleteWell done Lily with the sports race, I was never good at sports but fantastic for her. Glad you're both feeling rested and well. Such lovely photos, isn't everything in the garden looking lovely at this time of year. Take care x
ReplyDeleteLily enjoys being outdoors, and she likes to be active. I wonder who she takes after? ;)
