I didn't really know how I should begin this post. With everything that is going on in the world it seems rather frivolous of me to be writing about the normality of my days. And yet I have found comfort in reading other blogs, so I will persevere, and I'm sure the photographs will speak for themselves.
March has brought with it some much needed sunshine to these parts. It is as though the grey clouds lifted all at once and spring is finally edging it's way in. Mornings have been bright, but the bitterly cold wind is a sharp reminder that winter is still very much with us.
We've enjoyed some lovely walks. Well wrapped up, of course. And I've been able to get some washing hung out on the line, at last. We continue to have a steady stream of birds to the feeders in the garden and the grass has now benefitted from it's first cut of the year. I just need to turn the soil and then I can make a start on preparing the garden for the warmer months ahead. The lawn, especially, needs a lot of extra care.
It is wonderful to see spring buds in the hedgerows and it won't be long until the daffodils will be out in flower. I might even go and gather some wild garlic from the woods tomorrow.
At the weekend we took a short walk up Souther Fell, setting off from the small village of Mungrisdale. The fell is a popular launching site for paragliders and we saw around eight in the air while we were there. Unsurprisingly, as the conditions would have been perfect.
My feet remained firmly on the ground, however. And we enjoyed our walk, followed by a picnic lunch in a small wildlife garden, finishing off our day by sitting outside the village pub with a refreshing drink.
My week began as usual, but now I'm at home, having finally tested positive for covid just yesterday. Time to put my feet up and have a cup of tea, I think.

What a glorious hike! The views and the weather look fabulous!
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon! Take care!
Thank you, Ellen. X
DeleteBeautiful photographs as ever. I feel the frivolous normality of things too, but what can we do other than hope it ends quickly? Even to say that feels complacent.
ReplyDeleteIt is heart breaking. Xx
DeleteYes, it's quite disconcerting knowing that our lives carry on as normal when we can't even begin to imagine the horrors of what people are going through right now. It saddens me that we're unable to help more. Your photos are beautiful a real pick-me-up, and you're right, we can find comfort in the day to day things at the moment. I do think that spring is on its way, at last, I think you can feel in in the air now, the sun is gaining a little strength and the sky is quite blue on occasion. I'm sorry that covid has finally caught up with you, I hope the symptoms are mild and that you have a quick recovery.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jo. I am feeling incredibly grateful for the ordinariness of my days just now. X
DeleteThe good thing... this *kind* is "like a cold." So if you are going to get *it*, seems like this is the one.<--Not being frivolous. Just being logical.
ReplyDeleteOh that place with the stepping stones and waterfalls, to be seen from"inside." Oh how delightful.
Wondering, do all of you have to be in quarantine, or just you? So many different and silly *rules,* all over the place. What is your local quarantine *rule*?
I feel, that we have to live our lives, and gain as much joy from so doing, as possible. Because, what good does it do, for us to live in worry? It does no good for those suffering from this MURDERER. It does no good for us, for sure.
We need to care for our own health.
And see all the joy we can.
And blog about it. :-) Which props up fellow bloggers. Thank you for so doing!
Gentle hugs,
🌼 🌼 🌼 🌼
It would seem that positive cases are increasing once again, but I am grateful to only have mild symptoms. Lily remains clear for now and I can return to work as soon as I have two negative test results. X
DeleteI always enjoy your photos. They are really lovely. What a beautiful area to be able to walk in.
ReplyDeleteWe are still deep in snow, last year the golf courses were open and the weather was beautiful. This year though we have had endless snowfalls and still have deep snow, and backing out of my driveway is a slow cautious move, until I can see the road beyond the high snowbanks.
I am sorry to hear you have Covid. Look after yourself. It sounds like the time for a cosy blanket, and a book. Good wishes, Jean
Thank you, Jean.
DeleteThe weather is becoming much more spring-like now. I can't imagine what it would be like to have so much snow. X
That photo of Lily looking out at that waterfall is utterly beautiful, I love it.
ReplyDeleteSending you lots of love for a speedy recovery. xxx
Thank you, Vix.
DeleteAlso, notice the handful of sticks! X
What lovely photos, spring is certainly on the way. I've also struggled with blogging of late but I realise that we need to enjoy our lives as we never know what's around the corner and like you I love to read blogs.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you have covid, I hope you don't get many symptoms and test negative soon.
You're right, of course. The situation is just so heart breaking. X
DeleteI love that first photo of the stepping stones in all that sunshine.
ReplyDeleteI hope you don't feel too rough with Covid and recover quickly.x
I am grateful my symptoms are very mild. X
DeleteYour photographs are lovely such a joy to see ...
ReplyDeleteHowever, I am sorry to read that you have tested positive for Covid, sending lots of get well wishes.
All the best Jan
Thank you, Jan. I am getting plenty of rest. X
DeleteYou are not being frivolous - if anything, seeing your lovely pictures and reading about your trips out is even more important in these circumstances than at other times.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to read you have just tested positive - hope you are not hit too hard and soon feeling better. xx
Thank you, Jayne. Luckily, I only have mild symptoms. X
DeleteBest wishes with beating that covid.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pat. X
DeleteI know what you mean Jules. I've felt the same way myself but everything that is going on just makes me feel extra grateful for the normal things in my life. Even the everyday tedious tasks have taken on a new meaning, having a home to clean and family to cook for feels such a blessing at the moment. I hope the dreaded covid doesn't impact your health too much. Look after yourself. xx
ReplyDeleteIt certainly puts our own lives into perspective doesn't it.
DeleteThankfully, I've only been experiencing mild symptoms. I just need those negative test results now. X
Reading about normality alongside the horrors of the war is somehow very strange, I think I know just how you feel and maybe the reason why I have started many a blog post and then abandoned them; yet keeping a sense of normality must surely be helping to alleviate some of the stress and helplessness we are all feeling at the moment. For me it was lovely to read of your recent walk and see the pictures that hold a great sense of peace and the expectancy of new life about to emerge from a very drab winter. Hope the Covid is only a mild illness for you. Take care xx
ReplyDeleteI think we've all been feeling quite helpless, as well as a sense of guilt that we are, for the most part, able to go about our day to day life unaffected by what is happening just now. X
Deletefabulous photos! I hope your symptoms are mild and that you will feel better soon. Take care
ReplyDeleteThank you, Maggie. X
DeleteBeautiful scenery, as always! Glad you were able to enjoy the sunshine and nice weather. But, I'm so sorry to hear that you tested positive for Covid! I hope you have just the mildest of cases and no one else in your household gets it. Hope you feel better, soon, and recover quickly without any lingering side effects. Take it easy!
ReplyDeleteI was so glad I had made the most of my weekend, especially when I saw that test result. Thankfully, my symptoms have been mild. X
DeleteYes. I agree. Reading blogs and finding comfort from each other is so helpful these days. Thanks for the beautiful photos, my friend.
ReplyDeleteComfort in the ordinary and familiar. X
DeleteMarvelous photo as usual, Jules. Hope your test result doesn't mean you are suffering symptoms. Stay well!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Chris. Only mild symptoms, thankfully, but I still need two negative results before I can return to work. X
DeleteI hope you feel better soon Jules. Your weekend walk sounds perfect and your photos are, as always, really lovely :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eunice. Xx
DeleteIt's been lovely to see the sunshine but it's still quite cold. I agree how nice it is to see washing on the line again blowing in the breeze and fresh air. I'm glad you enjoyed your walk, I like your first photo with the stepping stones. I hope you don't suffer too badly with Covid, what a nuisance for you, get well soon.
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely to have that fresh air smell on my clothes again. X
DeleteYour photo's are beautiful and yes the lovely sunshine is deceptive when you get out there the wind is bitterly cold. I'm glad that you managed to get your washing hung out, I have to wait for my fence to be fixed before I canc as tie the washing line to it. I know things are pretty dire at the moment but I think we have to make the most of and enjoy the ordinary because it can be snatched away at a moments notice. Sorry to hear that you have tested positive for Covid hopefully it will be very mild. Take care. xx
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right, Linda. We should grasp every opportunity. X
DeleteAh I recognise the window view, Rydal Hall? Imust get there again. Feel better soon. X
ReplyDeleteYes, it is Rydal. It was lovely and quiet when we visited. X
DeleteThose gorgeous photos do speak for themselves - thank you for sharing! I especially love the window with the waterfall view - it's like something from a fairy tale, quite bewitching!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that Covid has finally caught up with you - make sure you get plenty of rest, and hope you feel better very soon.
I'm amazed I've managed to dodge it for the last two years. Thankfully, I only have mild symptoms. X
DeleteSorry to read about your positive test, hope it is a mild case. It is rife here on the Island which is a little disconcerting. A beautiful stroll with stunning signs of Spring in each photo. Take care.
ReplyDeletePositive cases seem to be on the increase here as well. Fortunately, my symptoms have been mild. X
DeleteFinally the penny dropped, and I now know what I was not doing in order to comment lol.Your photos as ever are breathtaking. So tranquil and must help to heal the whirring in our brains. So sorry you have tested positive and do hope you do not suffer.Hugs to you all and a cuddle for Mog.xx
ReplyDeleteThat's great, Lee! I'm glad you have managed to sort whatever the problem was. I'll be sure to pass on your cuddle. X
DeleteOh you too Jules...pesky Coronavirus seems to get in everywhere. I think all of our hearts are feeling heavier at the moment. The cruel actions of such a few having an impact on many innocent souls. Those pictures however are indeed beautiful and a soothing balm so thank you for sharing them with us. x
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon, Jackie. X
DeleteAbsolutely beautiful photos Jules - especially the one of your little one looking over the waterfall. Nature and peace is the balm we need right now. If we could cast a spell, we would. Hope the Covid isn't too bad for you and make sure to drink plenty of tea xXx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lulu. I'll put the kettle on. Xx
