Woodland Wander

Having asked myself on numerous occasions what day it is, not to mention having had little concept of time, I have finally found myself in that period between Christmas and New Year where I have no idea what on earth I'm doing, and I quite like it. In all honesty today has passed in a bit of a blur. I know I have eaten too much chocolate, drunk far too much coffee and not done anywhere near enough housework, but as I'm not expecting any visitors at anytime soon, I will readily overlook that :)

This morning I went for my booster. Now unlike my previous appointments, where some kind, gentle souls very carefully administered my vaccinations, today I was subjected to someone I can only describe as a young child in training, who proceeded to jab me quite forcefully in the top of my arm before I'd even had chance to roll my sleeve up properly. To say I was shocked was an understatement. Even the second volunteer, who was recording my details, was clearly taken by surprise and went out of her way to make sure I was okay afterwards. Not to worry, at least it was quick. I was grateful he had volunteered his services and I'd like to think perhaps his technique improved as the day went on :)

This afternoon, as I was fortunately not feeling any side effects, we took a short walk through the woods and out towards the pond. Even at only 2 o'clock the light was already flat and low, and it felt as though it could have been much later in the day. The path through the woods was very muddy beneath our feet and I was glad we had decided to wear our wellies. The obligatory sticks were gathered and the stream explored before wending our way back up the steep hill as darkness began to fall. Momentarily the sun broke through the cloud casting a beautiful light across the trees.

This evening, I've been taking it easy, and I won't be long out of bed. Tomorrow, the forecast doesn't look so great, so I think I will take the opportunity to have a tidy through and at least clear the kitchen. It's all looking a bit of a mess right now.

  1. I've heard how they are training up people fast to give the jabs, perhaps they were nervous, even so, it's very disconcerting.
You make me feel very lazy with your walks, I haven't managed to get out for a single one yet! I do love looking at the photos from your walks though, so thank you.

    1. Mine was one of the first appointments of the day, so perhaps he was just warming up :)

  2. Take it easy and enjoy your time at home. Best to enjoy the outdoors whenever a nice day presents itself, rather than toiling indoors. The jobs will get done!

  3. I'm sorry your booster experience wasn't very good. I've always thought that these covid jabs are administered by properly trained nurses, all mine were - I certainly wouldn't be happy about some unqualified volunteer doing it. I like the photo, the sunset though the trees looks lovely :)

    1. My first was administered by an occupational therapist, and my second was by a vet! X

  4. Beautiful photo of the sun shining through the clouds and the trees. I'm glad you were able to get your booster, even if the person giving the shots was a bit abrupt! I hope you continue to be free from side effects. A good idea to take it easy, tomorrow, too.

  5. Hope your rather forceful injection has not left you with any side effects.

This "twixtmass" period is a rather nice undefined jumble, isn't it?

  6. Oh I know that lovely feeling you get at this time of year. A bit of a limbo land that is very relaxing. Ouch for that booster. Not good. As you say hopefully he improves as the days go by. B x

    1. From the reaction of the second volunteer, I suspect he would have been on the receiving end of some choice words once I had left. X

  7. The week between Christmas and the New Year is a time to relax and grown up stuff can wait, well that's what I believe anyway :)
What a shame your booster jab experience wasn't a good one, the young vaccinator needs to learn some bedside manners, it's not all about the jab.

    1. I've spent much of my life unsuccessfully trying to avoid 'grow up stuff'. :)
Yes, if it had been my first vaccination I would have found it very off-putting. X

  8. Oh no, the jab hurts enough without it being administered yobishly. Hopefully as you say, his technique improved throughout the day. X

  10. I am glad to hear that your week is panning out like ours is. I too am rather loving the fact that we are not slaves to the clock, it would be lovely to do that more wouldn't it. I hope you are feeling ok after your booster jab.

  11. I had a similar rushed stab and jab with my second vax and it left a lump and a rather sore arm. The booster (part 3) was given by such a gentle soul and she was rather concerned when I mentioned my previous experience. I am not injection shy and I suspected she thought I may have nervously jumped but when she jabbed me and all went well, she then wondered if the previous person may have been inexperienced and apologised profusely on their behalf - I said it was not a problem and it is not - I am just grateful to have had access to the vaccine when so many do not.

    1. Yes, it would have been rather off-putting had it been my first vaccination. Like you, I'm just relieved to have finally received it. X

  12. I'm the same, no idea what day it is, but that's okay because I don't have to be anywhere. I hope you're okay after your booster, my side effects came about the following day, which was quite a shock as I'd sailed through the first two jabs. Still, better that than the alternative.

  13. my first two jabs were completely painless but my booster felt like it was given by a javelin thrower, i actually yelped and moved off my chair a bit! i give blood so i'm not scared of needles but it was quite unpleasant, and my arm was very sore for a few days, but at least i'm safe, i hope you don't develop any side effects and do enjoy the rest of your time off x

  14. Eeeeeek! A jab, before you were even ready! Not, not, not good technique. And you are young. Imagine if he does this, to old people? He could have them on the floor! -sigh-

Ahhhh yes... 'The Week That Time Forgot' -smile- When it is perfectly fine, to pay no attention to the day, time of day, or much of anything!!!!!!

I am putting a post-it-note on the refrigerator, with date and day on it. That way, we can check, as we go by. -grin-

    Gorgeous photo....

Hope your day goes by, without any bad side effects, from the Jab.

    Hugs and Love

  15. Oh crikey Jules, the child in training was obviously very eager to get it over and done with. After everybody assuring me you didn't feel a thing I was surprised at how much my first jab hurt. Didn't feel a thing the second time so I don't think the first person had perfected his technique either! Beautiful photo of the sun. x

  17. Which booster did you get? I debating on which brand I want to get this time around. I'm sorry to hear your experience wasn't so great this time. I hope you are feeling well with none at all or minimal side effects. Have a great evening.
