Choosing Our Tree

Shortly after lunch, and following a relaxed morning spent at home, we wrapped up well once again and excitedly headed out in search of our Christmas tree. This felt like quite an event, as we haven't bought a tree for the last few years. Our previous pot grown tree had served us well until recently it, sadly, became root bound and couldn't be revived.
Our first stop was at the garden centre where we'd bought our previous tree. There had been plenty of choice when we'd last visited but this years offerings were disappointingly poor. Had we wanted a freshly cut tree, there would have been no problem, but as we prefer a potted tree which can be used again and again it can be a little trickier to find just the right one.

The next garden centre had much more choice. There were trees of every variety, shape and size, and it didn't take us long to find exactly what we wanted. Not too big or too small, it was just right. They also had a very nice fire pit where it would have been very easy to while away more time than was strictly necessary. Once we'd made our decision the helpful assistant was quick to bag our tree and I might have even put some mistletoe in our trolley : )

After spending some time watching the little train travel around the model Christmas village, we returned home, where we brought the tree into the porch. Lily has watered it well and we'll allow it some time to settle before we bring it into the house to decorate.

As promised, here is a picture of Lily's snow globe. It is still, apparently, the 'best snow globe ever'.

  1. It's great, going to buy the Christmas tree. We just put up our real tree today. Haven't decorated it yet, though. Unfortunately our local tree person only does sawn off ones, so sawn off it is.

  2. Sadly our tree was a swift grab at Tesco. I used to love visiting the forest for a tree. Taking hours to choose! Love the globe.

    1. I'm sure your tree is lovely. I did joke that if we couldn't find what we were looking for then we'd be going to the forest with the garden fork :)

  4. I would agree - it is an exemplary snow globe! Here the favoured tree is the Fraser fir but they are hard to find as they take about seven years to reach the correct proportions for a Christmas tree.

  7. That certainly is the best snow globe ever, it's lovely. Well done on finding your perfect tree and Lily's smile says it all. I must admit to only ever having artificial trees here but I do buy more baubles every year so it's quite full.

  8. I can almost smell that tree. I bet it makes a lovely addition to Christmas. I am tempted to buy a potted one and decorate it for outdoors. Have fun decorating it.

  10. I can't ever remember having a real tree but Mick says we did one year, I have no recollection of it at all. What a gorgeous snow globe, no wonder Lily's happy with it.

  11. I do love garden centers this time of year, they have so much stuff and often a bit different than in the shops. I also miss choosing a tree each year, but in our small house it would be a fight to keep it alive, the only spot we can place ours in by the patio doors, with a radiator beside it.

    1. This one will probably be quite close to the radiator, unless I can move some of the furniture around. I'll be keeping a close eye on it. X

  15. I've only ever had a real tree once, back in the 70s, but the cats kept climbing up it and knocking the baubles off so I haven't bothered since. I like the Christmas village and Lily's snow globe is definitely the best one ever :)
