Under the Weather

I've been in hibernation the last few days. Just before the weekend I came down with a rotten cold and have spent much of this week feeling rather sorry for myself. I've been curled up on the sofa under a blanket, drinking hot lemon and honey, and managed just the bare minimum of housework in order to keep everything ticking over until I felt back to normal again. This morning I think I've finally turned a corner, my eyes have stopped streaming and I have discovered the ability to breathe normally once again 😌
One advantage (if there is one) of being poorly is that I've had Mog snuggled up on the sofa with me. She was the same this time last year when Lily came down with chicken pox, sleeping right by her side. I'd like to think it is genuine concern that something is not quite right, but I'm sure it is more likely down to having a warm human to lie with and a cosy wool blanket. Nevertheless, she has been good company.

The recent turn in the weather has heightened my longing for spring. Bright, dry days and lighter evenings have been a most welcome change from the dark and damp we had throughout  January. I hope this weekend's imminent storm is short-lived and that we can look forward to even more sunshine and blue skies as the month goes on. The snowdrops are out here now and I've been determined to enjoy them while they last. A short walk through the woods and we were greeted by this lovely sight.

Just after Christmas I began making a blanket for a friend's baby, due in March, and I'm happy to say I've finally finished it. It is largely based on this pattern here, although I have made the picot edging less 'spiky' and I used  the Teeny Tiny Stars pattern from Attic 24.

It's not easy to photograph a blanket but I hope you get the idea. I gave it to my friend this week and I'm happy to say she is thrilled with it. In fact, I was really touched when she told me it is already packed in her hospital bag.

  1. Get well soon, it's rubbish when you feel under the weather, but I'm sure having lovely Mog snuggled close to you has given you a bit of comfort. The blanket is beautiful, such a pretty colour and I love the stitch, such a lovely gift.

  2. glad you are over the worst (I do accredit it to the power of a purring Mog and blanket therapy) talking of blankets - the baby blanket looks wonderful - the stars just add that extra love xxx

  6. Oh Jules, it's beautiful, I love it! I looked up the pattern and it said project time 2 hours- that's some serious speed crocheting! Sorry to hear you've had a cold, but happy you're on the mend. Wonderful, caring, Mog. I do think our pets have that sixth sense and KNOW when we are ill. Watching wildlife documentaries, so many times you see animals caring for the sick and older members of their group. Take care, Jane x

  13. Oh, look at that sleeping kitty! Taking her job of providing companionship when her humans are not feeling well very seriously, I see. Sorry to hear that you've been under the weather, but, glad you are feeling better, now.

The snowdrops are so pretty! And that baby blanket you made is adorable! The little stars really make it special. What a lovely gift!

  16. Oh so sorry you have been unwell... Do hope it is mostly in the past now.

    Be safe,with the coming storm.

We have been in an Ice Storm, last night and today. Luckily, we still have power, but a huge amount of my city and area, are without power. Due to ice/snow covered trees limbs, falling on power lines.

With luck, we will continue to have power.

    Gentle hugs...

  22. Oh you poor dear, hope you really have turned “the corner” and are on the road to recovery. If Mog was a dog I’d say she was snuggling up to give you comfort, but the dear girl is very much feline and that probably means she thought YOU were there to give HER a warm snuggly place!

The blanket is gorgeous, wish I could crochet. XX

    Snowdrops are the prettiest sight.

I hope you are feeling better now, sounds like you were struck down horribly. And yes, it's Mog showing she cares. They can be selfish and heartless little characters, but you can tell that they really love you when they snuggle up when you most need it! xx

I'm feeling much better now, fingers crossed. Although, I'm sure I said that before the latest virus arrived :) You have much more faith in Mog than I do. She only appears to 'care' when there is a woolly blanket involved. X
