Almost

Although the Autumn equinox was well over a week ago we have been experiencing some unseasonably mild weather for the time of year.
Mornings have been a little on the fresh side at times but by lunchtime jackets have been able to be discarded once again.
The leaves on the trees are just starting to change their colour and even with the shorter days I am not in full on Autumn mode just yet.
Our days are, once again, ticking along quite nicely and the last month seemed to pass us by so quickly. We have made the most of the plentiful fine weather days and enjoyed some fantastic walks together.
It was so lovely and quiet on a recent visit to Grasmere that we even made it into the Gingerbread shop. I think it was the first time I have ever seen it without a queue outside.
Unfortunately, our little household has been struck down with various viruses in the last few days, my cure for which is to get out in the fresh air. This afternoon we will go for a short walk and collect some free cooking apples from a help yourself box in front of a nearby house. I will make a cinnamon apple crumble this evening. After all, it is said you should feed a cold.

  1. My mouth is watering at the thought of an apple crumble, I could just fancy that. I totally agree a cold should definitely be fed with all things wonderful.

  2. I'm sorry to hear you're under the weather. The cure is definitely to feed a cold and your cinnamon apple crumble certainly sounds as though it fits the bill. We had our first frost yesterday and I've got the heating on already, it's turned really cold all of a sudden.

  3. Beautiful pictures and quite right to enjoy the fresh air when you can. We had a gift of apples and then pears this week so a few more crumbles will be made for the freezer - and one for tea of course.

  5. We've also enjoyed the late warmth but have noticed the sudden drop in temperature but late afternoon and recently have indulged ourselves with the word burner in the evenings. Love cropped field photo - very seasonal ☺

    1. It has been an unexpected treat, especially up North! I would love a wood burner but I'm afraid I would be loathe to tear myself away from it. X

  6. Crumble and gingerbread, you read my mind! Hope it does the trick.

I too have been struck down with some kind of lurgy, we'd been planning a trip out for gingerbread and other lakeland goodies tomorrow too, hope I'm well enough.

  9. As I am late to your post I do hope the crumble worked its medicinal magic and you're all feeling better. How lovely to find Grasmere quiet (and not raining!), doesn't happen often :)

  11. that sounds like a great way to feed a cold. I normally try to scorch it out with the hottest chilli I can find, but in truth I'm not ill very often at all

    1. A chilli is a great idea too. I'm not sure any ideas actually really work but anything that involves eating must be good. X

  15. Sorry, I am behind on some of my blog reading. I hope you have got over your cold by now. Lovely photos. Are those wooden spoons in the flower bed in front of the gingerbread house? If so, what a cute idea!

  16. OOh, seeing that makes me feel very nostalgic. When my husband and I started going out, he had a tin of Sarah Nelson Grasmere gingerbread sent to me to say thank you for my help and support with something. It was such a sweet gesture. I was very sad that I am not fond of ginger and was thus unworthy of such a beautiful thing though I did try to eat some!!
