Home Love

Thank you all so very much for your kind  words and good wishes on my last post. It was a lovely day and thoroughly enjoyed by all of us. Even though it was only just over two weeks ago Lily has already grown and changed so much in that short time, learning new things every day. She is such a sweetheart and brings us so much joy.
May seems to have gone by in a whirl. There has been so much I have wanted to achieve in so little time but I will need to be more patient.
The weather is still being incredibly kind to us and we have spent much of the week in the garden, at the park and enjoying some short walks, though never really straying too far from the house.
It is very true when they say 'Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans'.
Anyone who knows me knows I don't like our house. We are incredibly lucky to live in a lovely area surrounded by fields with the countryside on our doorstep but for my own reasons I don't like the house we live in.
The plan was that we were going to start looking at moving to a new area after July (Yikes that's next month!!!). A new home, new surroundings, a fresh start, but ha ha..... the universe has other plans. This last month there was the offer of a new job in our local town. The position is perfect, it's a big step up and yay!  for getting the job, we are so very happy about that. It just means our original plans are on hold for the time being and I now have to put on my big girl pants and get used to the idea of staying put, for now at least.
What this does also mean is that I really do need to start showing this house some tender loving care and turn it into our home.
The little jobs I have been putting off must get done and not begrudgingly just because it will help the house to sell. I need to inject a bit lot of colour, let the light flood in, add those personal touches and make it somewhere I look forward to returning to at the end of a day.
I expect it is going to take a lot of time and effort. Tempers will fray and occasionally I will give up on it all only to start over again. But it will all be worth it in the end to be able to create and learn to love what will be our HOME.

  1. I didn't like my home when we moved in here many moons ago, BUT as time passes it became home as I am sure yours will. The people in it make the home...

  2. Congrats to S, but I understand very well that it is a shock to find you'll be staying in a house you had not bonded with.

Same happened to me many years ago. I detested the house we lived in and after 18 months we had in up for sale. 24 hours before Completion the buyers pulled out. Long story short, decided to stay for a bit longer because I couldn't face going through the selling stress again. Realised I had to give the house a chance and once I had got my head around it, I managed to settle and we were there another 8 years.

I couldn't change the house or its location so I had to change my attitude. I never loved the place or completely settled but I regularly reminded myself how many people would happily have taken my place every single day. And yes, doing all those "jobs" really does make a difference.

    1. Thank you Jayne. Yes, that is exactly how I feel and I do fully appreciate just how many people would give anything to live where I do. I'm so pleased you were able to settle, at least for the time you were there. 'Bloom where you are planted' - I like that and will try and remember it when I have my bad days. X

  4. Congrats on the new job for S. It's hard to make a home out of somewhere you don't want to be, but it sounds you like you have a good plan and it will be worth it x

  6. Oh the good and the bad why do you always come together! I hope you can find a little piece of your heart that loves your home and makes it your own. You are so right that it will make it easier to sell, but it is hard to do something when your heart is not in.

Three is a wonderful age isn't it? A special time to be a parent. :)

    1. I love who is in this home which is the most important. The rest I can hopefully work on. Three is a great age. There are many challenges but also so much fun to be had. X

  7. Congratulations to S on the new job. I know exactly what you mean about not liking a house, I really wasn't keen on our first house or the street it was on. We were able to move after 3 years and I was glad to see the back of it. Being able to relate to how you feel I really admire your attitude of accepting that it's going to be home for the time being and your decision to get on and 'show it some love'. The photos of a little corner of your home and your garden are lovely. xx

    1. Thank you Suzanne. I am going to give it all I've got but truth be told, if a cash windfall came my way tomorrow then I would be off like a shot. X

  9. Your garden looks lovely!

I wish you lots of success with your homey jobs! We've been doing our house up for the last year as it was in a terrible state when we bought it, before we do any DIY together my husband and I shake hands and say 'remember we're friends and remember we love each other' to remind ourselves not to snap at each other too much during the stressful DIY!

  10. Apologies for responding and reading this late in the day, but congrats on the job front for S. How true that quote is, and so onto the house to make it a home. If you can give it the love and attention that your friendship has shown me then I am sure it will radiate warmth and love too. Who knows you may start to fall a little bit in love with it too. Sending you heaps of love and gusto to make a start on the house x

  11. I'm sure a bit of TLC and your house will feel more like your home. Put up a few fairy lights, fairy lights make everything better ;o) x

    1. Ooh! Yes. Fairy lights. I only have one strand of lights at the moment. I must rectify that. Thank you Sadie. X
